India refuters, industry polluters grip March City Council

In a discussion by journalists Dave Glowacz and Ben Joravsky, Dave and Ben sift the semic polemics of 2021's March meeting of the full Chicago City Council.

In the standard version of the episode, Dave played a medley of aldermen's invectives resulting from a proposed resolution by 49th Ward Ald. Maria Hadden. The resolution calls for condemnation of violence in India.

In the premium version of the episode, Dave played clips of aldermen debating a one-year building demolition surcharge pilot in Pilsen and Logan Square, arguing whether the measure would combat gentrification or rob long-time owners of their rightful equity. Dave and Ben mulled aldermanic disagreement on whether the proposed ordinance would pass "legal muster."

Also in the premium version, aldermen lined up for and against new zoning regulations to address environmental concerns for developments in industrial corridors—prompted by the move of a metal recycler from the North Branch to the far South Side.

The episode's premium version also aired a council controversy over a resolution calling for a $5 million guaranteed income initiative—pitting economic justice champions against those calling for slave-descendent reparations.

Finally, in the premium version, Dave and Ben heard an evocative videoconference scene: Aldermen checked whether enough of their peers were present to take a vote.
